HFO Fired Boiler

605 T/Hr boiler firing Heavy Fuel Oil.

Problem

Slagging on the furnace wall tubes and fouling on the superheater and economiser causing poor boiler efficiency resulting in high CO2 emissions.

After Therma-Chem Treatment

Slagging and fouling was removed from all parts of the boiler resulting in boiler efficiency improving by 6-8%. Furthermore, it was determined that if SWCC continued to use Therma-Chem’s FS12 it would reduce CO2 emissions by 340,701 tonnes per year.

UNFCCC CDM Approval

As a result of this trial, Therma-Chem’s technology was approved by the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change as an approved methodology for Clean Development Mechanism projects. Therma-Chem’s approval for use as a CDM methodology can be found on the UNFCCC website:
