Coal Fired Boiler
2 x 50 MW boilers (2 x 420 T/Hr) firing coal.
Problem
Slagging on radiant sections and superheaters, and fouling on the economiser resulting in poor boiler efficiency and a subsequent increase in CO2 emissions.
After Therma-Chem Treatment
Slagging and fouling of the boilers was reduced improving the boiler efficiency and reducing fuel consumption. Consequently, a TÜV inspection over a period of 3 years from 2008-2010 revealed that the plant had a total emissions reduction of 78,915 tonnes of CO2.
UNFCCC Joint Implementation:
For this project at Holboca CET Iasi II, Therma-Chem’s FS12 was utilised as part of a Joint Implementation agreement between the Danish and Romanian governments to improve boiler efficiency and subsequently reduce CO2 emissions.
Under Joint Implementation, countries with commitments under the Kyoto Protocol are eligible to transfer and/or acquire emission reduction units (ERUs) and use them to meet part of their emission reduction targets. Therefore, Therma-Chem are able to assist countries seeking to transfer or acquire ERUs as defined in the Kyoto Protocol.
